The Big BA
Buenos Aires!
06.04.2007 - 12.04.2007
Hmmm...... Buenos Aires, it is the stangest city i think i have been too. It is full of oxymorons. It is really safe for a capital city, yet really dangerous, its is really European yet really Argentine, its really expensive yet really cheap. My feelings on Buenos Aires are also really mixed.
When i first arrived at the bus terminal in Buenos Aires i had to go and grab a taxi and go to the micro centro as i was told that would be the best place to stay. From leaving the terminal to getting in the cab i somehow had my purse nicked by a tramp that i saw running away but only realised a minute later what had happened. The police were useless!!! They shouted at me and made me cry. I had to call mum and tell her to cancel my card and i was really upset. I had just taken out 250 pesos and the tramp took my student card too! Anywho, things like this happen and i suppose you have to just live and learn from these things. I managed to get the card back as mum has a friend who has a friend who has a friend who just happened to be flying out to BA and who said he would bring my card, talk about luck!
The rest of my time in BA was good. I stayed in a nice hostel, met some cool people including some American twins and some crazy Uraguaian guys who were really excited about practicing their English! I met up with a girl, Ulrike, from Germany who i had met a couple of weeks prior and we spent the day walking around and visited the Cementario Recoleta. Recoleta is this HUGE cementary where anyone who is anyone in Argentinian politics/screen and film/or in the arts goes to be buried. Evita (Eva Perón) is buried there amongst all the famous tombs so we visited her grave. It is the strangest feeling to be walking around this place that is like a little town with streets and houses. Quite spooky too!
BA was fun, but quite annoyed that i didn´t go out dancing! Oh well there is always next time!
Next stop..... Puerto Madryn!
