Puerto Madryn
13.04.2007 - 17.04.2007
Puerto Madryn is a very tedious 21 hour bus ride from BA. Me being, well, me, i decided to get the bus that was the cheapest i could find which turned out to be dirty and really slow with no tv for films. That kinda sucked but the good thing is that i can sleep for days on buses so it wasn´t too bad.
When i got to Puerto Madryn i checked in to a hostel called Don´t Worry, it was really nice, clean, the staff were really friendly and the people there were nice.
The day after i arrived i went on a tour to the Peninsular Valdes. In high season you are able to see Orcas, Penguins, Sea Lions and Elephant Seals. Except the Orcas were saw all there was too see and an Armadillo who kept running between my legs too, but there were not many of the animals there as its nearly winter so it was not as impressive as it would be. The ocean was beautiful though and i took many photos of the penguins and the water as i was fascinated.
I met a guy called Jye in an internet cafe on the Sunday morning while i was in Puerto Madryn, hes Australian. We both decided it would be a really great idea to hire bikes the next day and cycle to a small beach called Punta Loma where a huge collony of sea lions live. It was only 17 km away so we didn´t think it would be that dificult. We hired bikes from my hostel and found the first 5 kms a doddle. The roads were paved, it was along the beach front and the sun was shining. At the turning where the road turned in to a sandy/gravelly road, the cycle began to get harder. The Sea Lions were amazing and we managed to get really close by breaking the law and walking down to the beach. All in all though it didn´t really make up for the pain. Now i know i am no athlete, far from it infact, but Jye was very sporty and tries to find a gym he can go to in every town. Both of us found it really tough! At times you couldn´t actually ride the bike through the sand as it was too thick. I just kept thinking, never again! Got burnt too, that was not fun.
Puerto Madryn is quite a sleepy little town out of season so as i was travelling up to Bariloche (the same way as Jye) we decided to travel together for a while.
I will be writing soon.... like in another 5 mins!
