Esquel and Lago Puelo

semi-overcast

Esquel is a sleepy little ski resort town where the old steam train still runs through and log cabins are aplenty. Jye and I got off the bus at 6 am and so had to find a hostel in the dark. We chose one from the guide book and got a taxi to take us there. Everyone in the hostel was asleep and we couldn“t wake them so we asked the taxi driver to take us to another one. He took us there, checked and rang the bell, told us it was ok and then drove off. We walked up to the door and found that the hostel was closed until next month! That taxi driver was mean! This meant that we had all our stuff, it was 6.30 in the morning, freezing (as i had a skirt on) and raining. I was not amused! We did manage to find a hostel eventually, but by this time i was very pissed off! All in all we seemed to have quite bad luck in Esquel! The steam train that we were going to take a ride on was full, no where was open at lunch time for food and it rained on and off. However, all you had to do was look up and see the mountains and everything seemed better!
Lago Puelo was a few hours bus ride up the road from Esquel. Again it is another sleepy town, snuggled in between mountains on 3 sides. When we arrived in Lago Puelo we had breakfast and then walked up to a waterfall and took photos of the perfectly clear mountain waters. We caught a bus to the lake where we wanted to kayak. When we arrived however the wind and cold put us straight off that idea.
Both Lago Puelo and Esquel were picturesque... have a look at the photos....
